About The Magnetron Chronicles

The Magnetron Chronicles is a planned trilogy in fifteen parts, a series of fifteen novelette-length (10-15,000 words) volumes compiled into three longer books.  Adapted from the web serial with the ungainly title "The Secret Journals of Phineas J. Magnetron" (2000-2002), this serialized neo-Victorian tale follows the exploits of eccentric Nineteenth Century inventor Phineas J. Magnetron and his fellows in the Hogalum Society, an inscrutable secret organization of multi-talented adventurers.

The Magnetron Chronicles tales fall somewhat awkwardly into the "steampunk" sub-genre, a kind of speculative fiction which re-imagines the Steam Age mise en scène of the early science fiction/fantasy masters such as Jules Verne.  This so-called "retro-futurism" recreates the intoxicating expectancy (both fearful and optimistic) of a time when it seemed science had—or would soon have—all the answers.  Steampunk revisits this era, re-envisioning the future of generations past with all the breathless melodrama and tumult of that Victorian-era pulp fiction staple, the "penny dreadful."

The first five volumes in the series are now available as ebooks from your favorite online stores:
The first five volumes are also now available together in Book I of the Magnetron Chronicles trilogy, Rise of the Hogalum Society.

Future volumes will be announced here as they become available.
This website will also provide additional background material on Phineas Magnetron and his fellows in the Hogalum Society, as well as the remaining cast of characters.

I highly recommend while reading these books - listen to the orchestral sound track to Heavy Metal. Actions scenes within the book while listening to the theme of DEN is awesome!
